(FOX5) – Las Vegas police are on scene of a shooting that injured five people, killing two of them, near the US-95 and Charleston Boulevard Friday evening.

The victims are all unhoused individuals.Police said the shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. The suspect fled in an unknown direction and is outstanding, a police spokesperson confirmed to FOX5.The three other victims’ conditions are non-life-threatening, according to police. No other official details have been released at this time.FOX5 crews talked with a few homeless folks who live across the street from the shooting.

The group knows all five people who were shot. They tell us they often steal copper wire in the area for drug money. They think this shooting was drug-related. One person said she heard about 12 gunshots but another said he heard fewer. The witnesses we spoke to say they saw the suspect sprint right past their tent.“He’s got a pretty good step to him. He wasn’t running flat-footed, that’s for sure. But he didn’t go up the way like they told officers, you know.

They’re expected to do that around here because anybody who cooperates is looked at as a snitch and, you know, they’re pretty much dealt with,” said local unhoused resident Jason Ferrer.Metro said it would provide a news briefing Friday night.FOX5 has a crew on the scene and will update this article as more information becomes available.Copyright 2023 KVVU.
